Academic Day Programme
This years programme has an interesting mix of medical sciences and recovery with speakers from UK and Canada.
Lisa comes from Devon, where she works in the field of Health and Social Welfare.
She was recently awarded a Master’s Degree from the University of Exeter for research into the problems and challenges faced by health professionals, in particular doctors and dentists in recovery from addiction.
Her presentation will discuss her research dissertation – ‘How do medical professionals account for attending AA?’
Doctor and dentist in-depth description of recovery and the entanglement between the traditional biomedical model and the 12 Step holistic approach of anonymous organisation.
John is a just-retired Analytical Toxicologist who worked in the Forensic Medicine department at St George’s Medical School in London.
Some 20 years ago, he founded TIC-TAC, a commercial database for drug identification, widely used by UK Healthcare and Law and Order professionals.
His presentation will reflect on changes in drug abuse during his career.
He will consider how compounds have changed and the monitoring of new ones.
He will talk about internet purchasing, drug analysis from various sources plus changes to the laws and their consequences.
David is the current Professor of Criminology in the Department of Law at Sheffield Hallam University and visiting Associate Professor of Addiction Studies at Monash University in Melbourne.
He has been involved in the development of assessment of Recovery Capital as a research instrument called Rec-Cap.
His presentation will explain the rationale and psychometrics as a means of building Recovery Capital into communities and the implications for pathways to recovery will be discussed.
Mike is a Consultant in Physical Health & Addiction Medicine and is the current Medical Director of Ontario Medical Association PHP.
His areas of interest are diverse and numerous.
His presentation will concentrate on the Five Fundamentals of Civility and their place in recovery
